Collection Agent
« on: April 04, 2010, 07:04:26 PM »
Collection Agent, the new (but not released) NPC who gives you rewards for your full sets of items needs to be finalized. For that, I need some input.

The NPC will do the following:
  • Give you gold based on how many items are in the set (and then by what rarity the items are totaled).
  • Give you an achievement that will get added to a new section on your profile. This will be weighted more than any statistic in the game (and leaderboard).
  • Remove all those items from your inventory.

The last point is the most controversial. Some people want the items to be removed so they can keep their inventory clean and focus on collecting the set again if they want to. Others want to always have the items as a reminder they achieved a full set.

Keep in mind, you aren't forced to return the set. Is there any other ideas what happen to the items when returned?

So long as the badge you'd receive is weighed as or more than that lot of items then I think it's a good idea to exchange items for a badge. I have so much stuff in my inventory and it's difficult to manage, I am attached to it but if I could have a badge then I'd be just as happy to show off the badge, perhaps give the badge a profile so you can see all the items you had to obtain.

A problem I see is for sets that you keep adding to (like Zelda), so perhaps when we think there's only 67 Zelda items, but you know for sure there's more to add then when you try to hand it in to the collection agent he can say something like "there are other items of this set that have not yet been discovered". For things like DK you took all those items so you know there's no more to be added.

I liked to envision getting a badge for a set, where the badge would have like a DK logo on it or something, customized to the game.  :P

This is kind of difficult.
I'm not a big fan of handing my items in, even if there's a gold reward. For one, if you get gold equal to the market's price when you sell an item (IE - ~1/4 of 'retail') it's not worth it at all. Also, by handing the items in, it means that I'm unable to hand in sets I've completed that contain enchanted items, because the NPC will either take the enchanted item (noooooooo!), or WON'T take the enchanted item and I'm stuck with them until I can find a replacement.

The latter is not a huge hairy deal, but the former is kind of frustrating, especially without weighting sets. Yes, you get points and a badge, but with the gold payout so trifling it makes sense NOT to collect a large set like Zelda, since you could spend that effort collecting doom guns 8 times and end up 'ahead'.

I see that allowing users to keep an item could encourage things like tandem collections, selling whole sets, other game-breaking things like that.

Chances are your pants are not as fancy as the pair of very fancy pants that Mister Fancypants would wear.

Sounds like we need a further unique reward then to add more value? Say like an avatar? My intention with avatars was always being able to collect them like items; albeit, a lot more rare, but being able to see your selected avatar everywhere your name is.

An avatar would be pretty awesome. Especially if it was unique to the set you returned. (Say, the doom avatar could be a Caco demon and the super mario world could be Yoshi or something.)

I just returned my first full set and was expecting a major cash windfall...all I got was 950 gold pieces. I did get an avtar as well though.  I like this feature as I make many trip to the maket place and vendor house looking for goods to add to my collection

It would be nice if you got more gold but I think it's equaled out by the medallions having highest weight on the leaderboard.
